Johnston to Hit The Mark Again in Queen’s Vase – Daily Power Stat

Mister-Impatience-HorseSticking at Royal Ascot it’s another huge day at the Berkshire track, but the race we are going to focus on today is the Queen’s Vase at 5pm.

Run over 2m the race is one of the longer contests this week, so finding a horse that will get home is key. Looking at the official ratings then the horse to beat will be Aidan O’Brien’s Leading Light, who is rated 8lbs higher than his nearest rival, Disclaimer, and based on that will be popular in the betting.

O’Brien took this in 2007 too, but there is a huge question mark about this horse’s stamina. The furthest he’s gone so far is 1m2f, and despite his pedigree suggesting he’ll be fine over an extra 2-4 furlongs this race is over 2m, so will enter the unknown.

The same applies to Lady Cecil’s Disclaimer – a horse that’s won his last four starts in decent fashion, but the furthest he’s been is 1m3f.

So with that in mind I’d be prepared to take them on, especially in a race trainers Sir Michael Stoute and Mark Johnston have dominated in recent years. Between them the pair has landed the spoils a staggering 7 times in the last 11 years!

Stoute took the race in 2008 and 2012 – he runs Baihas, while Johnston has targeted this race with success five times in the last 11 runnings and sends three to post – Federal Blue, Royal Skies and Mister Impatience.

Really with a record like his, and at the prices, then all three should be supported in some shape or form. Royal Skies comes here off the back of two decent wins and looks on the upgrade, but its interesting jockey Joe Fanning has left him for MISTER IMPATIENCE.

Fourth last time out over what was probably too short a trip (1m2f), but the time before he was second in the Chester Vase over 1m4f behind Ruler of the World – and we all know what that horse went onto do next!

So the form looks rock solid now, while the step up to 2m should bring out even more improvement, but, like I said, it could also pay to have small e/w interests in Johnston’s other two runners, plus depending on the price the Stoute runner could be added to that portfolio too.

SELECTION: MISTER IMPATIENCE (e/w)
